I don’t always know where a painting will take me when I begin. I rarely have a plan—just an open heart, a loaded brush, and a quiet trust that God will lead the way.
That was especially true for this piece.
I didn’t set out to paint something about wildfires or loss. But as the layers formed and the textures settled, a new kind of story revealed itself—one of aftermath, of stillness, and of hope quietly rising from the ashes.
A lone rowboat rests along a smoky shore. The sky glows faintly in the distance, like embers fading but not forgotten. A scorched tree stands guard—silent, but still standing. Somehow, what started as an abstract became a prayer—for restoration, for resilience, for what still remains when the fire is gone.
After the Fire is part of my Undone and Made New series—a collection of once-forgotten works brought back to life with new color, new meaning, and deeper purpose. It’s a reminder that even when we don’t see the outcome, beauty is still being written into the story.
