It Started With Listening

The Maverick didn't begin as a product.

It began with years of conversations after art shows, a growing list of things that didn't quite work, and one person who cared enough to listen.

As an artist, I knew the frustrations of hauling heavy displays, wasting precious booth space, and trying to make do with equipment that was never designed by someone who actually used it.

Will listened.

Then he began watching...not just me, but other artists. He noticed the little challenges we all accepted as "part of the job" and wondered if there might be a better way.

So he went to the workshop and started building.

From Tree to Studio

Many of the first Mavericks started long before they ever reached the workshop.

The hardwood came from trees on our property. Will cut them, milled the lumber on our sawmill, and let it dry before ever building the first Maverick.

From there, every board was measured, shaped, sanded, and assembled by hand. Nothing was rushed because the goal was never simply to build another easel. The goal was to build something that truly served artists.

While we may source some specialty hardwoods elsewhere in the future, every Maverick will continue to be built one at a time with the same care and attention that shaped the very first one.

That small mark represents a much bigger story. It reminds us where each Maverick came from, whose hands built it, and why it was created in the first place.

A non-refundable reserve deposit secures your place in our production schedule, with the remaining balance due before your Maverick ships or is picked up.

Designed for oversized canvases that extend above the top of the Maverick Studio System, the Wide Canvas Support attaches just like a shelf to provide a broader contact point behind your artwork. The added width helps support larger canvases while maintaining the Maverick's portable, fold-flat design.

How much does Maverick cost?

What shelves are included with my Maverick?
The Maverick Classic includes one 15" shelf and one 20" shelf. The Maverick Gallery includes two 24" shelves. Additional shelves can be ordered separately.

Can I order additional shelves for my Maverick?
Yes. Additional shelves are available for both Maverick models. The Classic uses 15" and 20" shelves, while the Gallery uses 24" shelves. Gallery shelves are designed specifically for the wider Gallery system and are not interchangeable with the Classic.

What shelf sizes are available?
Shelves are currently available in 15", 20" for the Classic Maverick, and 24" lengths for the Gallery Maverick, allowing you to customize your setup for different artwork sizes and display needs.

What is the Wide Canvas Support?

The Wide Canvas Support is an optional Maverick accessory designed for artists who display oversized canvases that extend above the top of the Maverick Studio System. It attaches just like a shelf and provides a wider contact point behind the artwork, helping larger canvases rest more securely while preserving the Maverick's portable, fold-flat design.

The 34" Wide Canvas Support is designed for the Maverick Classic, and the 38" Wide Canvas Support is designed for the Maverick Gallery.

Can I use the Wide Canvas Support for any size artwork?

The Wide Canvas Support allows the Maverick to accommodate wider artwork, but the size, height, weight, and weight distribution of your piece can affect the balance and stability of the system.

Heavier artwork should always be positioned lower on the Maverick to help maintain proper balance. Always use your Maverick on a level, stable surface and make sure your artwork is securely positioned before use.

Very large, tall, heavy, or unusually weighted pieces may not be appropriate for use with the Maverick, even with the Wide Canvas Support.

How tall is Maverick?
The Maverick Classic stands approximately 5.5 feet tall when folded for transport or storage.

Will Maverick fit in my vehicle?
When folded, the Maverick Classic measures approximately 5.6 feet long and is designed to fit in most pickup truck beds and many SUVs.

How much does Maverick weigh?
The oak Maverick Classic weighs approximately 10 pounds. Individual shelves weigh approximately 2 to 3 pounds each. Weight may vary depending on wood species and configuration.

Does it require assembly?
No. Maverick arrives ready to use. Simply unfold it, position your shelves, and begin displaying your artwork.

Does it fold flat for transport?
Yes. Maverick folds flat for easy transport and storage.

What is the purpose of the strap?
A cotton securing strap helps keep Maverick closed during transport and helps prevent accidental folding while the system is in use.

Can it be used for painting as well as displaying artwork?
Yes. Maverick was designed to function as both a display system and a working easel, making it ideal for studios, workshops, live painting events, and art shows.

What types of artwork can it hold?

Can I display more than one piece of artwork on a Maverick?
Yes. One of Maverick's unique advantages is the ability to display multiple pieces of artwork on a single system using adjustable shelves, helping artists maximize their display space.

Can Maverick be used outdoors?
Maverick performs well on level surfaces commonly found at art shows, galleries, studios, sidewalks, and paved event spaces. As with any display system, extra care should be taken on uneven ground or in high winds.

Is the design protected?
The Maverick Studio System is currently patent pending.

Are these kept in stock?
No. Each Maverick is built to order.

Can I request a custom Maverick or shelf size?

Yes. Because each Maverick Studio System is handcrafted, limited custom sizing may be available for artists with specific display needs.
